A big surprise: After 25 years of XTERRA there will be changing venues for the XTERRA World Championships in the future. This was announced by the XTERRA management around Nico Lebrun this week on www.xterraplanet.com and the social media channels. The until now absolutely non-negotiable fact that the XTERRA World Championships take place annually on Maui/Hawaii, always 14 days after IRONMAN Hawaii, is therefore history from 2022. The Dolomites will open the round of the new XTERRA World Championships with the XTERRA at Lake Molveno/Trentino. It is not known what considerations led to the choice of this location for the premiere. What is clear, however, is that XTERRA has always had a good home in Italy and the enthusiasm in the country for cross triathlon is great. We very much welcome this development towards changing locations for the World Championships. As mythical as the World Championships in Hawaii have always been, for many it was too time-consuming and too expensive to take part. Especially for the development of the XTERRA brand in Europe, this decision will certainly bring a boost. So we are looking forward to the new XTERRA era. And - who knows, maybe after 2014 there will be another World Championship at the O-SEE, the XTERRA World Championships.
