XTERRA Short Track Germany celebrates premiere

The new XTERRA race concept Short Track race had its world premiere in Prachatice (XTERRA CZ) in 2019. On 20.08.2021 it will be held for the first time in Germany in the run-up to the XTERRA European Championships at Lake Olbersdorf. A sprint-heavy, short cross-triathlon race over several laps. Natural trails paired with artificial obstacles make for exciting, fast and action-packed head-to-head races. This race format is intended to be equally attractive and entertaining for active participants and spectators.

Two laps of 200 m each will be swum, with a short shore run in between, followed by four laps of MTB of 1.5 km each and finally two laps of trail run of 1.3 km each. The MTB and running course are almost identical and only slightly modified in nuances. Only elite athletes nominated and invited by XTERRA are eligible to start at the premiere. 30 women and 30 men of the current cross-triathlon elite in Europe will be on the starting line in two races. The races will start from 3.30pm and the fastest are expected to complete the sprint in 35 to 40 minutes max. As in the European Championships the following day, the male and female athletes will compete for prize money for the first five places. The race is not only designed to be particularly spectator-friendly, but will also be broadcast live by eight television cameras. If you want to get a taste of what to expect, you can watch the broadcast of the last short track race at the XTERRA CZ here.
