This weekend XTERRA CZ starts in Prachatice and with it the first race of the XTERRA Europe series. So far, cancellations and postponements determined the schedule of the XTERRA Cross Triathlon races and now it finally comes to the long-awaited first showdown.
In the men’s race Jens Roth (GER) is considered as one of the favorites for the main competition on Saturday. Ten of the top 20 ranked XTERRA athletes will be represented, including seven-time world champion Ruben Ruzafa, Francois Carloni, Maxim Chané, Karel Dusek and also the two Arthur’s – Arthur Serrieres and Arthur Forissier – will be fighting for the podium again after a thrilling battle at the XTERRA Short Track Italy at Lake Garda a few weeks ago.
In the women’s race, 13 elite athletes are on the starting line. The favorite is local hero Helena Karaskova Erbanova. The Czech legend has never missed a race on home soil in Prachatice and has come out of retirement especially for this event. She will not have it easy. Young favorites Loanne Duvoisin and Sandra Mairhofer both finished first and second at the XTERRA Short Track in Garda, Italy, earlier this month and showed great form. With ITU World Cross Tri Champion Eleonora Peroncini, Marta Menditto, Solenne Billoin, Carina Wasle and Jindriska Zemanova there are more aspirants, for the fight for the top.
The races on Saturday will not only be about a total of €15,000 in prize money, but also about qualifying for the short track race on Sunday. The new varied race format will also be broadcast live again. The women’s race starts at 9 a.m. and the men’s race at 10:30 a.m.
